World Darts News:
13 YEAR OLD DUTCH BOY HITS 9-DART 501
Following the impressive clean-sweep victory of the
Dutch Boys Team in the recent WDF Europe Youth Cup in Folkestone, PASCAL VAN
MOURIK, a 13 year-old Dutch sensation, has become the youngest darts player in
the world to hit the perfect
9 Dart 501 Leg.
Born on June 11th, 1990, the youngster hit
his 9-darter in a tournament at Café de Valk in the Dutch city of Dongen on
Sunday, August 17th.
Playing in the Semi-Final, Pascal recorded his
9-Darter in classic style with 7 treble 20’s, t-15 and d-18.
Remarkably, Pascal has only been playing darts for a
year, but has already defeated many big names in and around his home town of
Culemborg.
Next season he will start playing junior competitions
because, despite his abilities, he is still too young to play at senior level!
He will also become a junior member of his County team and compete at
Inter-County level.
“A 9-Darter is special for any player, but for a 13
year-old it is a truly remarkable achievement” says Olly Croft, Secretary
General of the World Darts Federation, “and confirms beyond all doubt that the
WDF/BDO systems produce the best darts talent in the world.
“It also re-affirms the growth of darts in The
Netherlands inspired by the NDF, the support of the Dutch government and the
success of players like Raymond van Barneveld, Co Stompe, Francis Hoenselaar,
Mieke de Boer and so many others who now grace our WDF/BDO tournaments.
“When Raymond won his first World Professional Darts
Championship in 1998, he attracted a whole new generation of youngsters to our
sport. He also attracted SBS-6 to Lakeside, and they have played a pivotal role
in promoting darts on Dutch television.
“Together with BBC TV Sport, they have become the
premier darts broadcasters in The Netherlands, and Dutch players, as evidenced
by this wonderful 9-Darter and the outstanding performances of the Dutch
youngsters in the WDF Europe Youth Cup, proves conclusively that Dutch and
European darts is going from strength to strength”.
This inspirational news for darts provides a perfect
curtain-raiser for the Bavaria World Darts Trophy, which will be played in
Utrecht from September 6th to 14th and televised for nine
consecutive days by SBS-6.
It brings together the best darts players in the
world, including reigning and three times Lakeside World Professional Champion
Raymond van Barneveld.
It surely won’t be long before young Pascal van Mourik
and the exciting new generation of Dutch darts stars are sharing the stage at
major events with the top WDF/BDO players?
Their success certainly augers well for the future of
world darts.
